"The Joy of Sharing
God's blessing to the Young"
World Youth Day in Krakow

The 2016 World Youth Day was a truly memorable for the delegates of FIS During this international gathering of young people in Krakow, Poland last July 26 – 31 there was an atmosphere of great joy and excitement. People were greeting one another with smiles and cheers every time they came for an event or even when walking and meeting each other in the streets. It was also a challenge for shy people to get out of their quiet mode and mingle with the other delegates. People felt the holiness of the place since Krakow is called as city of saints.

There were times that delegates needed to walk for at least two hours even when the weather was not very conducive for hiking. FIS delegates shared how, during those long walks, they were able to recall the sacrifice Jesus performed while walking around Palestine to preach, and his ultimate offering as he carried his cross trudging the rough road to Calvary while carrying his cross and soldiers beating him badly.

The 2016 WYD gave participants, especially the young people, a lot to ponder upon. Mr Ralph Padilla, a Youth Group animator of Lourdes Parish, Cebu shares, “Two things struck me most: Firstly, the World Youth Day showed us all how the Lord is very merciful to us despite our sinfulness. He always welcomes us with an open heart. He does not consider how big our sins are. The important thing for him is that we should persevere in carrying our crosses in order to follow him. Secondly, God is calling us to be his bearers of love to others. He is sending all of us as his instruments of love to all the people in the world and we should say yes to his challenge because he created us for that purpose.”
