Youth in Formation

Like their founder Don Bosco, the Salesians have put a finger on the problem of education in the Philippines. They continue to involve themselves in education and evangelize through the school, thereby bringing to the young the pedagogical patrimony handed on by St. John Bosco.

School however is not the only place for learning. The Salesians know that today’s young also seek places and experiences for spirituality. They train their priests and brothers to face the needs of the youth and the challenges of the new environments sought for by both society and the Church.

In the light of such expectations, the Salesians promote Christian formation and education to spirituality through retreat experiences, schools of prayer, houses of spirituality, and centers of pastoral and catechetical formation. These encounters take place in schools, seminaries, and parishes. Such places not only heighten youth spirituality, but also promote vocations.

The Salesian School is an Educational Institution based on the Preventive System of St. John Bosco , which seeks to educate and evangelize young people to become good Christians and productive citizens.

The poor and the working class youth have special preference in Salesian establishments. By giving kids the chance to get into and stay in school, the Salesians help prevent the growing social marginalization in the society.

At present, the Salesians have three schools in the South. They continue to respond to the constantly developing technological society with higher educational standards. However, the pursuit of high quality does not keep them away from prioritizing those at the bottom of the pile and the poorest. Through scholarship grants, and a welcoming environment that uses simple and easily understood language, many underprivileged recipients are getting more opportunities for studies and gainful employment.

Hand in Hand with Partners
The Salesians gather a rich variety of people of diverse vocations, charisms, and ministries. They promote the development and communion of all these in the service of the mission. They enrich this communion with their charisma manifested in the living and sharing of the Salesian Youth Spirituality and Don Bosco’s preventive system of education.

Lay mission partners participate in this shared responsibility of helping form the youth and future ministers. They do so through their own Christian witnessing, in the generous offering of their time, and their open-handed contribution of resources.
